The Latest

I just got back from the hospital where I spent all morning with a wide awake little Britton. He has had really long awake spells (5 to 6 hours at a time) for the last couple of days and just enjoys being rocked, sucking on his pacifier, and checking out the world. Before I got there, he had been passed around to a lot of nurses already, and even went to "work" with the charge nurse.

There is talk of him going home this week. I say this tentatively, because he could have another d-sat and we're at day 0 again. We did get really excited when the doctor who was on last week said that Britton would be going home tomorrow (Wed.). However, that doc isn't on anymore and this week's doctor says he gets to go home Friday. :o( It's not that big of a difference, but we were really looking forward to being home with him. The plan is for us to "room in" with him in the family room at the NICU on Thursday night. If all goes well then, we'll be discharged on Friday morning. Britton has been d-sat free since Feb. 5th ... please pray that his d-sats are all behind him!

To get ready for discharge, Britton has passed his car seat test (he had to sit in it for an hour without a d-sat or heart rate rise or drop) ... he passed his hearing test ... he got his hep B vaccination (he & mom didn't like that one bit) ... and mom learned to give him his phenobarbitol medication which he'll be going home on.

We are so glad to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and we really hope and pray that this is Britton's last week in the NICU!
